road trip: Day 1

On the first day of our road trip, we started in Queenstown and drove about 20 minutes to a small town called Arrowtown. We grabbed a delicious breakfast (mine was Eggs Benedict and hot chocolate) at Provisions of Arrowtown which was the cutest cafe ever.

During our drive, when we would see something beautiful or interesting, we would pull over at one of the many lookout points. We saw gorgeous lakes, streams, mountains and even sheep and cows. Sheep and cows are a big thing here. Trust me!

Our first official stop on Day 1 was Wakana. We stopped to see “That” Wakana Tree and walk around the stunning, picturesque lake with mountains surrounding it. We walked on a path right along the water for about 30 minutes. Along the path were flowers, sage green pine trees, and pristine waters.

Our second stop was the Blue Pools Track. We walked along a path for 30 minutes and on 3 rickety bridges to actually get to the Blue Pools, but once we got there it was totally worth it. It was absolutely gorgeous. The water cascading down the hillsides were crystal clear. The whole landscape was just picture perfect. The only bad part of this is that it was pouring rain! By the time we got back to the car we were all soaked.

We drove straight to Haast and just spent the night there and prepared for the second day of our adventures.
