Frequently asked questions
Um, wait. What? How did you decide to do this?
It all started with some innocent daydreaming early last year, but then our idea got bigger and bigger. We fell in love with our idea. Stars really started aligning as Covid travel restrictions were lifting around the world and, suddenly, the girls seemed to be the perfect age to travel. That’s when spreadsheets were created, realtors were called, Kindness Rocks were painted, and full-family planning meetings commenced.
Why is it called “Noonans Get Lost?”
On a family road trip to New Hampshire, we listened to an audiobook called Ms. Rapscott’s Girls. It is a delightful story about girls who are shipped — in boxes! — to Ms. Rapscott’s boarding school for daughters of very busy parents. With the help of her canine assistants named Lewis and Clark, one of the very first lessons Ms. Rapscott teaches her students is the value of “getting lost on purpose.” We thought that sounded like a fun lesson to learn.
Speaking of lessons, what about school for the girls?
Ms. Rapscott is not available for hire, so Mrs. Noonan will be stepping in. We plan to follow the curriculum of our home school district, but on our own schedule, with a heavy emphasis on “world experience,” and the addition of “getting lost on purpose.”
After playing an alphabet game in which he forget the letter “F,” Mr. Noonan has been assigned to custodial and cafeteria duties by the students.
Where are you going?
We are planning to “chase the sun” so that it will be spring and summer for us throughout our travels. Our rough plan is this:
Central and South America (Sept-Nov)
Australia and New Zealand (Dec-Jan)
Japan and Southeast Asia (Jan-Mar)
India (Early April)
Africa (Mid to Late April)
Europe (May-July)
Our specific itineraries will be firmed up as we go, so if you have any suggestions or recommendations to share, we are all ears!
When do you leave?
We have one-way tickets to Mexico City booked for September 21, 2022. Adios!
Will you actually come back home?
Of course we will. 😬
