SCULPTURE SCAVENGER HUNT

I feared that my children would revolt if I scheduled another city walking tour so I tricked them, as any good mother would. I found a self-guided sculpture tour of Hobart City online and I turned it into a SUPER FUN scavenger hunt, where everyone had fun and no one rolled their eyes!

The nine pieces of art that are a part of the Battery Point Sculpture Tour were all numerical sculptures that were, in some way, a part of the city’s story. The numbers represented historical milestones, distances in nautical miles, the birth year of a notable Tasmanian, and important industries. All we had to do was follow a map to find all the sculptures. It was a delightful (and sneaky!) way to discover a city’s history through art.

We walked along the shoreline, through historic neighborhoods, past a mariner’s cottage, and into beautiful parks.

I enjoyed it immensely, and wondered to myself what a numerical sculpture tour of the town where I live might include…
