NAMBUCCA HEADS

A few days ago, my family and I started another road trip. We are driving from Sydney to Cairns, up a highway along the coast, making many stops along the way. Our first stop was in Nambucca Heads, as you may have guessed by the title of my post.

On the way here, we had to stop a few times to use the restrooms. The bathrooms were very gross, so I do not suggest using them, just hold it. Please.

There is also a heat wave happening. Just fantastic!

When we finally arrived at the Airbnb, we were all jostled by two big potholes in the driveway. Once we got inside the house, we noticed how hot it was. After reading a note on the counter, we realized that this place had no Wi-Fi or air conditioning. Dad was not happy.

So far, our road trip was off to a great start! 👎🏼

The next day, though, our first full day in Nambucca, was awesome! We started by doing a walk along the V-Wall, which is a wall of rocks that form a V along the water.

But was makes it special is how people from all over the world come to paint these rocks. They’re like the biggest Kindness Rocks ever! There were inspirational sayings (precepts!), memorial rocks, and just funny drawings. One of my favorites was a painting of a sunset. Actually, it might have been a sunrise. I don’t really know.

The next thing that was on our agenda was swimming at Shelly Beach. Everyone was packed on the beach, like sardines in a tin. The water was a tropical blue, and warmer than any other waters we’ve swum in so far in Australia. There were big waves and tiny ones. We had a really great time there, especially in this heat.

The big finale to our day was swimming in the Nambucca River. It was totally not worth it, in my opinion. It took a while to find a parking spot, and by then it was 5 o’clock, so it was very crowded. We got in the water and we immediately felt the pull of the strong current. We floated down the river three times, but it wasn’t till the end that we saw all of our bleeding cuts and bruises from the rocks and shells. Again: totally not worth it.

So, maybe if you are lucky you will have a better experience than us, but I still have some pointers for you:

1. Do not use the bathrooms on the A1 Highway. Hold it.

2. Do not stay at the Airbnb where we did, for sure.

3. Do not swim in the Nambucca River. It is a waste of your time.

That is all I have to say to you, so THE END!
