C'est moi, Belle

We have visited many smaller, quaint towns along our travels in the south of France where people actually walk down the street with a baguette sticking out of their tote bag! I love it!  We have been reminded of Belle, one of our favorite French Disney characters, and may have even broken into song at various points. Today I’m going to step into Belle’s character and write as her. I can relate to her a lot, because I look similar and we're both nerds… sooo, here goes!

As you know, I grew up in a quiet, poor provincial town. I loved hearing the welcoming “bonjours” and “good days” every morning from the “baker with his tray like always,” but I needed to explore. I found my Beast (you’ve probably heard that story before) and together we traveled to two other sleepy towns in the gorgeous French countryside: St. Paul de Vence and Aix en Provence.

St. Paul de Vence is nestled on the top of a hill, overlooking the sweeping mountain landscape. I think it is less known in France, which means there are no giant tours or crowds, and more personal space and fresh air! Narrow cobblestone streets and winding alleyways lined with flower covered stone buildings led us to an overlook with beautiful panoramic views. For lunch, I ate the absolutely most delicious rocket, tomato, and prosciutto salad with goat cheese and honey toasted baguette.

We also visited Aix En Provence, where we enjoyed strolling through the market in the center of town. The market had a large assortment of fruits, vegetables, lavender products, olives, and olive oils. The most delightful discovery I made in Aix was Christophe's Madeleines. These almond, lemon, and chocolate French sweets are absolutely delectable!

I loved both of these towns dearly, but St. Paul de Nence has captured my heart. I will return someday and spend more time exploring this adorable town. I just have to convince my Beast to come with me again, and I don’t know, maybe it’ll be just like a fairytale!
