Welcome to Kyoto!
On Monday, we left Tokyo and took the Bullet train to Kyoto. Kyoto is known for their Shinto and Buddhist Temples. On our first day in this city, we explored some of the most famous and interesting temples, including:
Kiyomizu-dera Temple
This temple was founded in 778 and located on the side of Mount Otowa. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Buddhist temple has burnt down many times, and the most recent structure is from the 1600s.
Yasaka Koshindo Temple
Even though this is a small Buddhist temple, many people visit it daily because of the multicolored “kukurizaru” cloth balls that hang from it. These balls represent the three good faith monkeys.
Kennin-ji Temple
This historic Buddhist temple has a traditional Zen rock garden inside. This temple is considered the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. I’m so glad that we got to visit!!
So far Kyoto is super cool and I can’t wait to keep exploring this new, magical city!
