A DAY AT ESTANCIA EL OMBU DE ARECO

A few days ago, my family and I got the chance to visit an estancia called Estancia El Ombu de Areco. It used to be an old house, but they transformed it into a lovely estancia and resort. While we were visiting, we got to ride horses gaucho style, have a delicious asado, and learn about the history of music and dancing in Buenos Aires.

One of the first things we did when we got there was ride a horse. On the horses, we walked and trotted on flat terrains for around twenty minutes. Even if it was a short ride, it was still an amazing experience. Later that afternoon, we got to see a professional gaucho play with his horse. The rolled over onto his back and took a little stretch with his gaucho. It was very impressive, but I am not going to try this at home.

Next we had a delicious asado. An asado is basically a huge barbecue, but with ten times more meat. We sat outside in the shade of a very large bush native to this region, called an ombu. We had chicken, sausage, pork, steak and lamb for lunch. Then, we had homemade flan and ice cream for dessert. All of the food was delicious, especially the sausage. It was amazing how they could keep track or everything, while at the same time, try serve eighty people.

After we finished lunch, we got to see a few traditional dances with folklore music. There were four musicians, but only two of them played instruments, an accordion and a guitar. At one point, both musicians played one guitar, so it was like a duet and a solo all at once! We got to see and do some traditional dances. You had a choice if you wanted to come up and dance, but more than half of the people there chose to dance!

Then, it was the end. We all wished that everything had been longer, but it was an amazing experience that we will never forget. EL FIN.
