GEORGE TOWN

Written about in the New York Times just this week, George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its “Outstanding Universal Value of Cultural Diversity.” We stayed at an Airbnb just off of Armenian Street. We heard the “Call to Prayer” from the mosques and saw giant joss candles burning in front of temples. We took a ride on a trishaw and scouted out street art made by a Lithuanian artist. We ate delicious Indian food and visited The Blue Mansion, which was built by a Chinese man who lived in Penang with his 7th (and most favorite) wife.

This is a place where different cultures and religions peacefully coexist. It makes me hopeful to know there are places like George Town in the world…
