MUSEU DO AMANHÃ

On the first full day in Rio de Janeiro, my family and I went to the Museu do Amanhã (The Museum of Tomorrow). This museum is all about what we want our “tomorrow” on this planet to look like, and what we need to do to make it happen.

First we visited an exhibit about MORE. It was all about how humans always want MORE and how that’s damaging the Earth MORE and MORE. One of the examples was that 19% of the coral in they world is now gray. It should be very colorful and vibrant, but because humans are polluting the oceans MORE, coral is dying. So do your part, and keep our oceans clean.

Next, we visited an exhibit all about the flow and movement of light, air, water and land on the Earth. It was displayed as two pieces of fabric dancing around in the air, created by Daniel Wurtzel. It was about how everything on it is moving and working working together to make this land, and we need to keep it like this.

The next exhibit was all about the cosmos. A video was projected inside a dome; we laid on the floor and looked up to watch it. The narration was in Portuguese, so I had no idea what they were saying, but it was still very cool. You could see the Milky Way, constellations, and planets. At one point, you could see a lot of creepy animals, like wolves, owls, and snakes. At other points, you felt like you were floating around the galaxies in outer space. We found the English transcript online:

We are the void. We are time and space. We are light.

We are energy. We are matter. We are atoms. We are the Universe.

The Universe is constantly unfolding. Unfolding as matter. And matter unfolding into life. Life which is mutation and evolution. Life that unfolds as instinct. Life that unfolds as thought. Thought that imagines the Universe.

We are Life. We are rhythm and movement. Diversity. Words and silence. We are memories. Knowledge. And invention.

We are Earth. We are the unfolding Universe. Unfolding as matter, matter into life, life into thought.

We are the thought that envisions Tomorrow, a Tomorrow that is here and now.

So you should totally come here. All of the exhibits were on the second floor of the museum. The museum was also surrounded by water. You should come here to learn more about our planet and how we can help. EL FIN.
