CREATURES of the Amazon Rainforest
We just visited the Amazon rainforest and it was crazy. First, we had to trek uphill from the boatjust to get to the lodge. Then we noticed that the rooms only had three walls and the ONLY protection from animals at night was a mosquito net over our beds. Then the animals. In the beginning, they gave us a briefing about our time here, which included the fact that animals like opossums could get into our room. In this essay, I am going to tell you about some of the insects, birds, and animals that we saw in the jungle.
Insects
The first insects that we noticed were the mosquitos. Our guide told us that 80% of animals in the world were bugs. And even though we were each wearing ten pounds of bug spray, they kept coming at us.
When we got to one of our destinations on a hike, we saw a jeweled beetle. It was pink, blue, and clear. It was a beautiful insect.
My dad and went on a nature hike at night, where we saw moths, mosquitoes, and even a tarantula.
Birds
The first day, we decided to do the macaw clay lick activity at 4 in the morning. Luckily, it was worth it. We saw around 20 macaws that morning. They were all very bright, vibrant colors.
We also saw trumpet birds, which were pretty cool, but made a weird sound.
Animals
On the walk to our lodge, we saw squirrel monkeys. They were leaping above us, and even though they were small, they were loud.
At night, before we went to bed we saw the opossums. They were tiny, but they were pretty intimidating to all the little insects around us.
We went on a sunset cruise, where we saw snakes and ROUSes, also known as capybaras and agouti. The capybaras were kind of overrated though. They looked like oversized guinea pigs and sounded like birds.
The last day, we went on a walk and on the way, we saw orange howler monkeys.
So, that sums up all of the creatures we saw. EL FIN!
