BOOK CLUB

We will be in Vietnam for 2 weeks, which gives us 2 weeks to read new books. We chose two award-winning books, Listen, Slowly and Inside Out and Back Again, both written by Thanhhà Lai, who was born and raised in Vietnam. I have already finished both of them!

Listen, Slowly is about a girl named Mia, who has to travel from California to Hanoi when her grandma, Ba, has a glimmer of hope that her husband, Ong, is still alive after supposedly dying in the Vietnam War. I really liked this book because it was one of the first mysteries that I have been able to read in a while. This book also translated some English to Vietnamese, so that was a really fun way to learn some of the language.

The second book we chose is Inside Out and Back Again, which is the author’s true story about leaving Vietnam during the War. I liked this book because it’s told through poetry. It was also mysterious, making me sit on the edge of my seat, wondering what happens next. 

We were able to borrow both books from our library. But even if you have to pay for them, it is worth your $9.99, I promise.
