book club

When we began our trip, Sadie, my mom, and I started a book club. We started it because we want to keep up on our reading, and because we are trying to read a book that takes place in the countries we will visit.

The first book that we read was based in Mexico. It was called What the Moon Saw by Laura Resau. It was about a girl going to visit her grandparents, whom she had never met. I am not going to spoil any more, though, in case anyone wants to read it. It was very interesting and kept me reading for long periods of time. 

The next book that we read was called, The Ugly One by Leanne Statland Ellis. It was about a girl who lived in an Incan village and she had a large scar on her face, which is how she got the nickname “the ugly one.” Then a stranger comes along and he gives her his bird, called a Sumac Huanacaur, or “handsome rainbow.” He knew that the girl was special, so he gave her this gift. 

The newest book that we are reading is called I Lived on Butterfly Hill by Marjorie Agosín. I don’t know much about this book yet, since we just stared to read it, but it takes place in Chile, and there is something very bad going on in her town.
