BRIGADEIROS

Who wouldn’t want to eat the most heavenly fudge ball covered in sprinkles? Umm, nobody!

It is amazing, my all time favorite dessert, and a Brazilian specialty. They’re called brigadeiros.

History

Brigadeiros means brigadier in English. We don’t really know why brigadeiros are called brigadeiros but according to popular beliefs, brigadeiros were created in honor of Brazilian Brigadier Eduardo Gomes in the 1940s. Now he is honored at every party of holiday in Brazil!

What is a Brigadeiro and how do you make them?

Brigadeiros are bite sized chocolate sweets. They are made with condensed milk, butter and chocolate powder. After you hand roll them in chocolate sprinkles and serve them in small candy cups. Over time, people have played with the recipe by adding different flavors and sprinkles to create new versions.

My Experiences with Brigadeiros

I first was introduced to brigadeiros by a classmate of mine, Vinicius, whose family comes from Brazil. His mom makes THE BEST brigadeiros ever! I once asked Vinicius how to make them, but he never really told me…! Sometimes, when we had before-school activities, Vinicius and his mom would bring them in for everyone to enjoy. The minute my mom left after dropping me off, I would stuff my face with lots and lots of brigadeiros! Sometimes I would even take some and keep them in my backpack for snacks if I ever got hungry during school, or just had a craving for the best brigadeiros!! 😁

In Brazil, I tried traditional brigadeiros and brigadeiros in a cup. Brigadeiros in a cup were good, but they didn’t have sprinkles on it. Next, I tried the traditional brigadeiros. Ahhh! SO GOOD! When you bite into the sweet chocolate ball of goodness, you are in heaven!

You have to try brigadeiros! They are awesome and the best dessert EVER!!!
