CASA BATLLÓ

On our first day in Barcelona, we decided to visit Casa Batlló because it is such a major attraction and wandering through it is a great jetlag activity (for our friends who had just arrived!)

Casa Batlló was designed by Antoni Gaudi, who is an artist and an architect. Gaudi was described as either edgy and pompous, or kind and loyal, depending on who you ask. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, like me! Gaudi used Barcelona as a canvas, which is why there are so many places designed by him, including La Segrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and so many more!

Casa Batlló is like no other building that I have seen. The theme of Casa Batlló is an underwater palace in a sea of old fashioned buildings. The architecture is simply stunning! The outside has a 3D wavy roof, a facade of mermaid scales, and a color palette of shades of purple, layers of blue, splashes of pink and a few spots of green and teal.

The inside has pulchritudinous stained glass windows, some even textured. The walls and ceilings are curved, with one-of-a-kind doors that fit in seamlessly. Gaudi designed this casa especially with sustainability in mind, so all of the rooms have unique windows to let in the perfect amount of light and cooling breezes.

I absolutely LOVED Casa Batlló. I didn't really have favorite parts, but I really liked a staircase with chains as the walls, and a short movie at the end of the tour. The movie was called ‘In the mind of Gaudi’ and it was a fully immersive experience with mesmerizing images projected onto the walls, floor, and ceiling! I definitely recommend coming to Barcelona, and when you do, Casa Batlló is a “must do.”

EL FIN!
