EATING MY WAY THROUGH BRUSSELS

We are in Belgium! Actually, Brussels to be specific. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the headquarters of the EU and it is simply charming! Everyone knows that Belgium is known for waffles, chocolate, moules, and spéculoos, but they are also known for something else.

FRIES!

On our first day in Brussels, we went on a walking tour, which brought us to the most famous places, like the Peeing Boy Statue and The Grand Place.

Right after the tour, we went to a delicious cafe our guide recommended to eat sandwiches and Belgian fries. Apparently, Belgians do not like the term “French Fries” because Belgians created fries. Fries are actually called French Fries because some stupid Americans came to Belgium, thought that they were in France, and had lunch, which obviously included fries. The Americans went back to the US and told everyone about the amazing fried potatoes they had in France. And voila! They’re known all over the world as French Fries.

They are unique because Belgian fries are not vegetarian! They are cooked in bacon grease (pig juice), which makes them delicious and unhealthy. I love Belgian fries!

CHOCOLATE

After lunch, we had the best chocolates EVER at Mary, the first woman-owned chocolate shop in THE WORLD! Mary is located on a cute little street corner. Inside the small shop were display cases featuring rows and rows of chocolates. Chocolates galore! Pralines, truffles and bonbons, oh my! We each chose two bites of heaven, and they were all magnificent! I got a chocolate and coffee truffle and a butter caramel and chocolate praline.

SPECULOOS

Another Belgian treat is a spéculoos, a gingerbread-like cookie. There were three types of spéculoos at Maison Dandoy: almond, original and vanilla. We each got one of each and they were SO GOOD!

We all had a delicious time here, and I definitely would recommend coming to Belgium, even just for the fries!

LA FIN!
