KAYAKING IN TORTUGA BAY

On the first day that my family and I arrived in the Galapagos Islands, we went on a kayaking tour of Tortuga Bay. We were accompanied by our tour guide, Danny, who was with us the whole day. The water was perfect for kayaking: clear, smooth, and a brilliant teal.

We started in very shallow waters, but in the end, went pretty deep. In the shallower areas, we saw a lot of different animals. The first animals we saw were Sally-Lightfoot crabs, which were all very vibrant colors ranging from bright reds to yellows and browns. After we saw those bright crabs, we started to see white-tipped Galapagos sharks roaming around us. There were hard to spot because they were kind of see-through and a very pale color.

After seeing the sharks, we went a little bit deeper, on a hunt for green sea turtles. We found a few once we started to head back. And while we were heading towards the shore, we saw some reef sharks. They were dark gray but only half the size of the kayaks.

So if you ever come to the Galapagos, you should definitely go to Tortuga Bay. Hopefully the waters will be perfect and you will see all the animals that we saw — and more!
