The Story of Marathon
Pheidippides is a part of the story of Marathon. I am going to tell you the story because I went to one of the places where the story takes place in Athens.
First, a war begins between Persia and Greece. A battle happened in the town of Marathon. They eventually won the war and they asked Pheidippides to deliver the good news to all the people in Athens. To get there, he needed to run 26.2 miles from Marathon to Athens. He ran to a stadium where everyone was gathered. He said, “we won!” and then he collapsed and died.
DUN DUN DUN!
This is why a marathon is named what it is named!
